Republicans have now wasted two weeks on their speakership debacle during a time when the American people and our allies need us most. The important work that my Democratic colleagues and I came to Washington to get done is at a standstill thanks to the failures of Republican leadership.

With all the chaos in Washington, it’s easy to feel like the government isn’t working. Well, I wanted to send along an example of how my team and I have been able to deliver for West Michiganders.

Last month, we secured funding to plant 15,000 trees in Grand Rapids! This will help not only beautify our city but also help combat climate change by removing carbon dioxide from the air. The number of trees planted annually by grant recipient Friends of Grand Rapids Parks will be tripled! This is an excellent example of how the government can deliver for real people if we set aside the pettiness, roll up our sleeves, and get to work.
