Tonight, Jews around the world will gather for a Shabbat unlike any other.
Our hearts are shattered. Our rage is visceral. Our questions—why? how?—are unanswered.
In our thoughts tonight are the countless families in Israel spending this Shabbat with empty chairs at their tables, and empty beds in their homes. A void that will never again be filled.
This massacre happened thousands of miles away, but it happened to us too.
Amid their deepest sorrow, the people of Israel are showing their pain but also their pride.
More Israelis have reported for duty than have been called up. Volunteers are donating blood, putting together care packages, and doing everything they can to win the war.
And we are making sure America has their back.
President Biden has spoken repeatedly and powerfully about his support for Israel. I urge you to watch and share this video with poignant remarks from his speech this week, and click here to thank the Biden administration for its leadership.
Nearly every member of Congress has expressed their unequivocal support for the Jewish state. Watch and share this video compiling the statements you made possible through AIPAC.
422 House members and 85 Senators have cosponsored resolutions underscoring Israel’s duty to defend its citizens and reaffirming America’s unequivocal support.
We are hurt, but we are not weak.
We are crushed, but we are not powerless.
Our pro-Israel community is strong. We are resolute. And we are more determined than ever to ensure Israel will win this war.
Hamas must never again be able to do what it did.
The road ahead is difficult. It’s possible that in the coming days, the Israel Defense Forces will begin its ground operation into Gaza to root out terrorists who have spent 15 years turning the area into a terror fortress.
This war will not be over quickly, and it won’t be won easily.
It is not a war of Israel’s choosing, but Hamas made it necessary. Together, we will ensure Israel is not alone in this fight—that the United States will provide all the support Israel needs to win.
May God protect the brave soldiers of the IDF, provide comfort to the people of Israel, and safeguard those kidnapped by Hamas.
Am Yisrael Chai.
Shabbat Shalom,
Michael Tuchin
