Continue reading this week’s letter to learn more about my push to approve a key natural gas project, some highlights from the last nine months, and more. | STANDING WITH OUR ALLY ISRAEL I'm devastated and heartbroken by the violence unfolding in Israel at the hands of Iran-backed Hamas terrorists. The United States must continue to stand strong with our ally as they rightfully defend themselves from these brutal attacks. I've cosponsored two bipartisan resolutions condemning Hamas and expressing unwavering support for our Israeli friends. Moving forward, The U.S. needs to ensure Israel has needed humanitarian assistance and resources to defend themselves. Additionally, 25 Americans have now died and many more are potentially being held hostage. We have to do everything in our power to bring every last American citizen home safely. As unspeakable acts of violence continue taking place, please join me in praying for the victims, their families, and all those who are still in harm's way. | PUSHING REGULATORS TO APPROVE KEY ENERGY PROJECT This week, I sent a letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), urging them to act on a natural gas expansion project. The GTN XPress project has been stalled at the commission despite having received its final environmental assessment nearly a year ago. If completed, the project would drastically increase the supply of natural gas across the Pacific Northwest – improving reliability and lowering energy costs for consumers. The letter states in part, “This delay has created significant uncertainty for energy users in the states and districts we represent and will likely subject them to higher priced energy alternatives. It is unreasonable for a project like GTN XPress, which meets all the Commission's criteria and impacts no landowners, to be subject to such lengthy delays. It is time for FERC to act.” Additionally, the letter points out that natural gas has an important role to play in lowering greenhouse gas emissions. Electric sector emissions have dropped 32% from 2005 to 2019, largely driven by the transition from coal to natural gas. Now as a member of Congress, giving students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with serving constituents at the federal level is one of my favorite parts of the job. If you or someone you know is interested in an internship, we hire both in Washington, D.C. and my Oregon district offices. The deadline to apply for our winter session, which runs from December 4 through February 29, is November 3. Apply today by visiting my website HERE! | CONSTITUENT SUCCESS STORY – PASSPORT APPLICATION There have been significant passport delays lately, which is why I helped introduce the Passport Modernization Act to streamline applications. In the meantime, my office is always here to help constituents with passport-related delays and other issues. For example, we helped Robert and his family get their passports before their trip this past summer. The new tower is critical to maintaining a high standard of safety at the airport, and I was glad to help secure some of the funding needed to move this project forward. It’s critical that we keep our airport infrastructure up to date to maintain a resilient supply chain and a healthy economy. I’ll continue supporting efforts through the appropriations process and through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to invest in Oregon and Oregon’s economy.
