Friend — this is big. Last month, Presiden Biden canceled Trump’s illegal leases in Alaska’s Arctic Refuge. Now, Biden is asking the public to weigh in on strengthening protections for more than 13 million acres in the Western Arctic and future leasing in the Arctic Refuge. These actions will prevent future drilling in America’s fragile Arctic.
The region is under severe threat from the impacts of the climate crisis and continued oil and gas development. Right now, the Arctic is warming at four times the rate of the rest of the world, putting communities and our planet’s future in grave peril.
With your help, we can ensure that one of the wildest and most pristine places on Earth is protected for current inhabitants and future generations. Please, weigh in today. Tell Secretary Haaland that you support protecting America’s Arctic. It only takes a moment to add your name and help us reach our 3,000 public comment goal >>
Alaska’s North Slope, which includes both the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the Western Arctic Reserve, is home to a vast array of species, including caribou, migratory birds, bears, and miles of untrammeled tundra full of flowers, lichens, and other resilient plants. It is also home to the Gwich’in Nation, who have occupied the Arctic since time immemorial.
Without additional protections, these vital ecosystems and Indigenous communities will continue to be at risk as climate change wreaks havoc across the Arctic.
Your voice can make a real difference as the Biden administration weighs stronger protections for the Arctic. Add your name to our petition now to tell Secretary Haaland to finalize the strongest possible protections >>
Thank you for taking action for our planet’s future.
Onward,
LCV Conservation Team
