In the News: Israel-Hamas war rages as Palestinian death toll in Gaza rises from attacks

Almost one week on from Hamas’ brutal terror attack, which killed more than 1,300 people, Israel’s retaliation has come from the skies. It has dropped about 6,000 bombs on Gaza between October 7 and 12, according to the Israeli Air Force (IAF). Palestinian officials said more than 1,500 people have been killed in the strikes.

 

Israel’s next move looks set to come from the ground. Overnight Thursday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) warned some 1.1 million people living in northern Gaza to relocate south, as some 300,000 IDF reservists have amassed near the border.

In the News: US will offer charter flights to help Americans leave Israel starting Friday

The U.S. State Department will begin offering charter flights to Europe to help Americans leave Israel if they want starting Friday, the White House said, after extensive talks with U.S. airlines and pressure from Congress.

 

The U.S. government will provide charter flights to cities in Europe, White House spokesman John Kirby said on Thursday. "We know there is a demand signal out there."

Rep. Loudermilk supports efforts to prohibit Iran from accessing financial resources

No U.S. Financing for Iran Act, H.R. 5921 (Rep. Bill Huizenga, R-MI)


This bill does three things to restrict Iran’s access to U.S. and international sources of funding: (1)The bill instructs the Secretary of Treasury not to authorize sanctionable payments to or from Iran. (2)The bill directs the U.S. Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to advocate against further allocations of Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) for Iran, and against transfers of SDRs from Iran to other IMF member countries. (3)The bill codifies an existing ban of financing exports to Iran through the U.S. Ex-Im Bank.
 
Iran-China Energy Sanctions Act, H.R. 5923 (Rep. Mike Lawler, R-NY)


This bill specifies that U.S. restrictions on correspondent and payable-through accounts for financial institutions that facilitate certain Iranian payments applies to financial institutions that facilitate payments between China and Iran for oil.
