Dear John,
This has been a week filled with horrors, beginning with the Hamas assault in Israel and continuing with the Israeli military offensive in Gaza. We are appalled by the human toll thus far and are joining with other pro-peace voices to call for an end to the bloodshed.
Sadly, some politicians in Washington are exploiting these tragedies to push various hawkish pet projects that risk undermining our rights at home and expanding the war abroad.
We have just learned that the Republican leadership of the House Foreign Affairs Committee will vote next week on the outrageous ban on travel to Iran that we have warned about. Additionally, the Senate may move next week to force Biden to formally renege on the prisoner swap agreement that freed five Iranian Americans by voting to block humanitarian funds [[link removed]] .
Unfortunately, organizations like the MEK and NUFDI are joining with groups like FDD and AIPAC in support of these measures - telling lawmakers that Iranian Americans want to be banned from visiting our loved ones and that we want humanitarian goods to be sanctioned. Lawmakers must hear from you that you oppose these measures.
In this reactive environment, voices for peace and restraint risk being drowned out by those demanding vengeance. That’s why we need to make our voices heard now. Our team in DC is doing everything possible to block these measures from moving forward, and you can make a big impact by taking the following steps:
1.

This environment is eerily reminiscent of the atmosphere that followed the September 11th attacks, in which policymakers trampled international law, attacked civil rights at home, and launched the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan. We cannot allow those mistakes to be repeated. We must stand up for our community, for human and civil rights, and for peace.
In addition to working to stop these measures next week, our team is in touch with pro-peace Jewish and Palestinian American to explore ways that we can support those communities and act for peace during this difficult time. We will keep you updated on those efforts.
Thank you for your support.
In solidarity,
- NIAC Action Policy Team
