Dear Neighbor:
This morning I proposed my newest bill, which would create the Nassau County - Israel Commission.
Israel is not only our most important strategic ally, but also an indispensable economic ally; the U.S. is Israel's largest trading partner, while Israel is home to more than 2,500 U.S. companies employing 72,000 Israelis.
A strong Israeli economy is directly linked with Israel's ability to successfully prosecute its military campaign against Hamas. Yet with 300,000 reservists called to duty, thousands of employees tending to child care needs, and potential decreases in overseas foreign investment due to the war, Israel's economy along with its booming tech sector is in danger.
Nassau can and should help Israel here, in a way that's also beneficial for our county businesses and constituents.
That is why I am proposing the creation of the Nassau County - Israel Commission.
This Commission would have 4 key focus areas:
1) Further economic & research ties with Israel
2) Explore potential investment opportunities
3) Uphold Nassau's Anti-BDS law
4) Work to source supplies for soldiers and citizens
This Commission would constitute Long Island's first legislative act since Hamas' terrorist attack, and I hope it spurs other municipalities to take similar action.
I am calling on my colleagues in the Legislature to pass this bill at our November meeting. There is NO more time to wait.
With appreciation,
Josh
