Light up the night sky at The Big Bang Bonfire

We're giving one lucky child the chance to push the big red button to start this year’s fireworks display at the annual #BigBangBonfire on Thursday 2 November.

Entrants must be 5 to 12 years old, live in Oldham and be available from 5pm to 8.30pm on the night.

Join in the half-term Halloween trail

 

As part of our plans to provide families with lots of free Halloween fun this year, we have teamed up with High Street Safari to run a special trail in the town centre.

 

From 21 October to 4 November, families can enjoy a great free day out with an augmented reality story trail across Oldham town centre.

 

This futuristic experience will give players the perfect day out during the half-term holiday and enable anyone with a smartphone to take part.

 

You can hunt down Halloween masks along the route, like witches, mummies, ghosts and ghouls and there are even chances to win some amazing prizes.

"A few days later they got in touch to offer me a trial - it went well and they took me on from there. I'm really enjoying it, I've been doing a bit of everything and learning a lot. 

“This has given me a fresh start and I'm really looking forward to seeing how things go."

Improvement works set to start on popular walking route 

The borough’s beautiful countryside is set to get even better.

Oldham Council has secured funding of £43,173.01 from Natural England, via the Pennine National Trails Partnership, to improve almost 1km of the Pennine Way from Haigh Gutter, Denshaw on the A640 in a north westerly direction. 

The council is providing £7,618.76 towards the works, which will see the existing eroded pathway being replaced with a new gritstone surface making it much easier to walk along.

Better drainage will also be installed to help stop further erosion of the path and landscaping work will also be carried out.

Recycle Week 2023 is here! 

Recycle Week 2023 kicks off on Monday 16 October.

Earlier this year, thanks to you lovely lot, we announced that we've upped our recycling rates by an impressive 10%.

As part of the week, we're raising awareness of putting waste and recycling in the right bins.

Oldham Way - overnight closures

Oldham Way will be closed to all traffic in both directions for three nights this month.

The restrictions are needed so bridge work and changes to the traffic management system can take place safely and quickly.

The closures are on Tuesday (17), Wednesday (18) and Sunday (22) and are from 8pm until 5am.

The restriction will be from Manchester Road roundabout to the junction of Prince St /Oldham Way. Please use other routes.

We’ve got some brilliant news for families in Oldham who spend time at Woodhouses Park.

We're investing more than £64,000 to take the playground to the next level.

We're making the play area larger and adding some new features. We're talking about improvements that will make your visits even more fun - more space for running, jumping, and letting imaginations go wild.

Landscaping work will also be carried out to encourage exploration and planting trees as part of our drive to be a cleaner and greener borough.

It's all hands-on deck to make sure the new playground will be ready as soon as possible.
