Royal News is taking a brief pause this week but one story we wanted to mention was the royal family's response to Hamas' brutal attack in Israel at the weekend.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman told us Wednesday that King Charles was "appalled by and condemns the barbaric acts of terrorism in Israel." The spokesman said the monarch, who visited Israel and the West Bank in 2020, was "extremely concerned" about the ongoing situation and "has asked to be kept actively updated." The spokesman added that the King's "thoughts and prayers are with all of those suffering, particularly those who have lost loved ones, but also those actively involved as we speak."
The 74-year-old sovereign then held a private audience with Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis at the palace on Thursday where the King expressed his concern for the Jewish community in the UK. The pair were said to have discussed the tragic events that had taken place in Israel, as well as ways to bolster interfaith harmony in Britain and the continued hope that a path to peace could be found internationally, a royal source told CNN.
The Prince and Princess of Wales also said they were "profoundly distressed" by the "horrors inflicted by Hamas's terrorist attack upon Israel," according to a spokesperson for the couple. "As Israel exercises its right of self defence, all Israelis and Palestinians will continue to be stalked by grief, fear and anger in the time to come," the spokesperson said, adding that the royals "hold all the victims, their families and their friends in their hearts and minds."
We will resume regular sends of Royal News soon, but in the meantime, CNN's Impact Your World has gathered a list of vetted organizations on the ground if you want to help humanitarian efforts in Israel and Gaza.
Take care,
