Tree Planting
Volunteer Tree Planting Event

Amidst rain showers and rainbows, volunteers planted several trees in Friendly Hills Park on Oct. 5. The trees they planted replaced several ash trees that were removed due to Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) disease.

Emerald Ash Borer is an invasive non-native insect from Asia that feeds on ash trees and disrupts the nutrients and water that flows through the tree, eventually killing it. Signs of EAB include patches of light colored bark, excessive woodpecker activity, D-shaped exit holes, canopy die-back and bark-splitting.

Volunteers planted native shade tree species to replace the trees removed, including American Elm, Honey Locust and Wild Cherry.
