La Jolla Country Day School
A huge thank you to Christina from the Service Learning program at La Jolla Country Day School. These high school students participate in a 1-week experiential education program every October, and this year she created the program “Refugee Voices of San Diego” to explore San Diego’s diverse culture and to learn about immigrant experiences in our community.

We’re so grateful for her and the 10 senior students who were inquisitive, respectful and eager to be informed to our work and the realities of our southern border, even if they are a bit far from it. Our mission and passion remains providing education alongside our direct humanitarian work.

If your school/group/organization would like a presentation or find out what other educational opportunities are available please email us at [email protected] today!

San Diego County declares humanitarian crisis for asylum seekers at border
With growing numbers of migrants arriving in San Diego County in recent weeks, the Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to declare a humanitarian crisis for asylum seekers at the border and request more federal support.

More than 8,100 migrants have been dropped off in the region in the last two weeks, according to the county — an influx county officials say shows no sign of slowing.

After waiting between the layers of fencing at the U.S.-Mexico border to be processed, many migrants are dropped off at transit centers across the county, often without the resources they need to reach their destinations, overwhelming local aid groups.

Supervisor Jim Desmond and Chair Nora Vargas, who proposed the motion together, said the county had recently begun fielding requests from local groups for help. Although some have already received government funding to help asylum seekers, local advocates say it is not enough.

The Biden administration says it is using executive power to allow border wall construction in Texas
The Biden administration announced they waived 26 federal laws in South Texas to allow border wall construction on Wednesday, marking the administration’s first use of sweeping executive power to pave the way for building more border barriers — a tactic used often during the Trump presidency.

The Department of Homeland Security posted the announcement on the U.S. Federal Registry with few details outlining the construction in Starr County, Texas, which is part of a busy Border Patrol sector seeing “high illegal entry.” According to government data, about 245,000 illegal entries have been recorded in this region during the current fiscal year.
