Dear Friend,

I hope you and your loved ones are well. 

The past week has been one of horrific news from Israel after the appalling and barbaric terrorist attacks by Hamas. Not only did Hamas terrorists brutalize and kill hundreds of innocent Israeli citizens - men, women, and even young children - they also took dozens of hostages. Several Americans were among those murdered or taken hostage and are currently unaccounted for.

First and foremost, my sincere thoughts are with anyone who is mourning the loss of loved ones or anxiously awaiting word of their whereabouts. Our nation joins with the entire Israeli community as it grieves the loss of so many innocent lives. Our hearts also break for the millions of innocent Palestinians who are now caught in harm’s way because of the recklessness of Hamas and its utter disregard for the people it claims to represent. 

Israel has a right to defend itself and its people consistent with the rules of war that democracies must strive to adhere to, and the United States stands with Israel as it does so. Terrorism and the heinous slaughter of innocent people is never acceptable and must be confronted.

President Biden and bipartisan majorities in Congress are committed to providing the support Israel needs to hold those responsible for this horrific attack accountable. This week, I joined 390 of my colleagues in the House - Democrats and Republicans - to cosponsor a bipartisan resolution that clearly affirms our commitment to supporting our ally Israel as it works to dismantle Hamas and its ability to threaten and terrorize innocent people.

As we support Israel in its self-defense, it is also my long-term hope that we can find a just and durable peace that benefits Israelis and Palestinians alike.
