ICE is trying to destroy records of abuse in detention

U.S. Immigration And Customs Enforcement (ICE) is about to destroy records documenting civil rights violations and abuses in detention. NIJC, ACLU, American Immigration Council, and National Immigration Law Center filed Freedom of Information Act Requests to obtain the documents before it's too late. ICE must be held accountable for its abuses and incompetence. Read more in ABC News.

NIJC sues ICE for racial profiling

Read the story by Chicago Public Radio about NIJC's lawsuit challenging ICE's enforcement tactics, which a judge recently ruled can proceed.

Illinois ends collaboration between Department Of Corrections and ICE

We applaud Governor JB Pritzker for ending cooperation between the Illinois Department of Corrections and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Imposing the second punishment of deportation and exile on those who have already made their way through the criminal legal system disrupts family units and destabilizes communities, leaving us all less secure. See NIJC's statement.

Maryland weighs ending immigration detention

Maryland has an opportunity to make history and ban immigration detention in the state. NIJC's Jesse Franzblau testified before the Maryland House of Delegates encouraging it to adopt legislation that would do just that. Check out the testimony.
