I want to provide an update on what has been unfolding in Washington, D.C. this week from the nation’s capitol.

First, on the topic of the Speaker's race, our progress has been slower than I expected. As Republicans, we are still reconciling our collective vision for the leader we will elect to deliver for the American people. While our decision-making process may seem prolonged, I believe the time invested now will have significant implications, not just for our party but Congress’ ability to pass meaningful legislation addressing our nation’s crucial issues. The next Speaker will be at the forefront of addressing the myriad of challenges our nation faces – high inflation, exponential government spending, an open southern border, parent’s rights in public schools, ensuring a strong military, and current foreign affairs conflicts. We want to ensure we're making the right choice.

On foreign affairs, Israel is in the midst of an unprecedented struggle, fighting valiantly for its very existence. The core of this conflict lies in the deep-seated animosity that Hamas, supported by certain Palestinian factions, holds against the Jewish people. Many desire peace in the region, but the provocations by Hamas have dispelled any near-term resolution. Historically, a two-state solution had been proposed, but Hamas’ desire to eradicate the state of Israel and its people continues to prevent that from coming to fruition. The United States remains unwavering in its commitment to Israel. I want to assure you that I stand firmly behind our Israeli allies and recognize the gravity of this situation on the global stage.

Though this week has been intense and demanding, I am hopeful that next week will bring better news. Please enjoy your weekend, and always remember: your voice and concerns are of paramount importance to me. Together, we'll steer our nation toward a brighter future.

Sincerely,

Pete Sessions
Member of Congress
