Friend, you know we’re in the midst of the climate crisis.

Record heat waves, floods, worsening pollution, and catastrophic wildfires are threatening our health and our lives. This year, the world witnessed the hottest summer on record, and if we don’t work quickly to lower our emissions, it will become the coolest summer we’ll ever have.

Corporations play a critical role in causing and addressing the climate crisis (especially when just 100 energy corporations are responsible for 71% of all global industrial carbon emissions).

Our corporate accountability package will make a huge difference. By enacting the nation’s first comprehensive corporate emissions requirements with SB 253 and SB 261, California will be creating the foundation for meaningful accountability on climate across the globe.

SB 253 requires any billion-dollar company doing business in California to disclose their direct AND indirect carbon emissions, while SB 261 mandates companies to disclose their climate risk.

Major corporations like Google, Apple, Microsoft, Salesforce, Ikea, and many others have stepped up to be accountable for their emissions and lead the business community forward on climate leadership. But far too many corporate executives have a blind spot when it comes to climate change.

According to a recent survey, just 19% of corporate executives surveyed consider climate change a “serious risk.”
