John was a current and active member of the Arlington Community Foundation board, and a true and faithful leader in every sense of the word.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of a deeply committed and passionate advocate for Arlington. As this tribute to his life reads, John passed "unexpectedly, with his husband and life partner, David Briggs, at his side" after a sudden decline in health.

There is a void left in this community by John's untimely passing, and we will do our best to hold that space with memories of his dedication and impact on the Arlington Community Foundation and so many other organizations and people. We hope that we do justice to the earnest, faithful, generous and passionate way that he approached his expression of love for this community, his friends, and his family. 

He will be missed in the Board room and all other spaces that he left void by his passing. We hope you will join us in keeping his husband, David Briggs, in your thoughts, and in honoring John's life and legacy.

Did you know? Low-income earners lose eligibility for subsidies for health care, food, child care, transportation or housing with even a minor rise in earnings, potentially leaving them and their family financially worse off than before. This is known as the benefits cliff.

The specific way this scenario works out is unique to each household’s size, income, children’s ages, and other factors. Sandra, the woman in this video, is a single Arlington mom with two children, ages 10 months and 4 years old. Hers represents a very typical situation amongst Arlington’s working poor.

The 30th annual Spirit of Community Awards Luncheon will take place on November 17 at Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel. Networking hour begins at 11 AM, with the event program starting at noon, and ending at approximately 1:30 PM. A full plated lunch service will be provided during the event, as well as coffee and tea service.
