Israel Is Under Attack — Here’s Why Christians Should Support Its Defense

By: Emily Washburn

People around the world are watching horrified today as Israel defends itself against unprovoked attacks from Hamas and Hezbollah, Islamic terrorist groups based in Gaza and Lebanon, respectively. More than 900 Israelites are dead — and thousands more injured — following Hamas’ invasion of the country early Saturday morning.

Author Joel Rosenburg calls the attack “Israel’s 9/11” and “Israel’s Pearl Harbor” — the American equivalent of more than 26,000 people dying in 72 hours.

Cultural and political leaders responded to the assault today as deaths continue to climb — including almost 700 people in Gaza and 11 Americans. 150 more are facing execution as Hamas’ hostages.

Jim Daly, President and CEO of Focus on the Family, writes, “The savage terrorist attack on Israel by the Hamas terrorist organization has rocked an already uneven world, spiraling the Middle East into violent chaos. Our hearts break for our Israeli friends, as well as for the unknown number of innocent victims and families from other countries, including the United States, who are caught in the crosshairs of this unprecedented slaughter and war.”

Ohio is Voting on Abortion This Fall: Here’s Why Everyone Needs to Pay Attention

By: Nicole Hunt

All eyes are on Ohio this election cycle as voters are asked to consider whether they want to enshrine abortion “rights” in their state constitution.

Ohio isn’t the first state to consider constitutionalizing abortion policy since the reversal of Roe v. Wade; in fact, that’s precisely why they have garnered so much attention now.

Following Roe’s reversal, the abortion industry started a campaign to pass as many “mini-Roes” as possible — amendments to create so-called abortion rights through state constitutions.

The abortion lobby has a 100% success record passing these ballot measures.

Last fall, they convinced voters in Michigan, California and Vermont to pass constitutional amendments securing abortion access through state constitutions.

The abortion industry has also stopped pro-life ballot measures from being approved in every state that has run one since Roe’s reversal, including in Kansas, Kentucky and Montana. Abortion activists believe Ohio is next in a long line of wins at the ballot box on abortion measures.

And, unfortunately, if they are successful this fall, the abortion lobby is poised and ready to unleash their strategy in at least six pro-life states by next year’s presidential election, including Florida, Nebraska, Arkansas, Arizona, Missouri, and South Dakota.

NFL’s Brock Purdy’s Main Goal: ‘Keep my eyes on God and nothing more than that’

By: Paul Batura

When the Daily Citizen spotlight last fell on San Francisco 49er quarterback Brock Purdy in January, the previous third stringer was on an improbable Cinderella-like run through the NFL Playoffs. At the time, he was preparing his team to square off against the Philadelphia Eagles in last season’s NFL Championship game.

“Every time I play — no matter what happens — I want others to see God through my actions,” Purdy said. “Every time I step on the field, I want to bring Him glory. Even when we lose, I point to God and thank Him for the opportunity. Everything happens for a reason; it’s all a lesson from the Lord. It’s a game, it’s not my life.”

As it would turn out, the former Iowa State star was injured in the first quarter of the game, suffering an elbow injury that sidelined him for the duration of the matchup. The Eagles easily beat the underdog ‘Niners 31-7.

Speaking on the Sports Spectrum podcast following the disappointing end to the season, Purdy reflected on his priorities and current perspective:

“When all the success and everything did start happening, I wasn’t going to change,” he said. “It was just, continue to be myself, love on my teammates, be the same leader that I had been all year, keep my eyes on God and nothing more than that.”

Specifically, Purdy said he had been mediating throughout the season on Jesus’ declaration that “whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it” (Mark 8:35).

Middle-Class Americans Struggling Financially, New ‘Issues 2024’ Brief Reports

By: Zachary Mettler

The American middle-class is struggling financially due to stagnating wages, rising inflation and the felt need for families to rely on two incomes to make ends meet, a new “Issues 2024” policy brief reports.

The conservative think tank American Compass, headed by Executive Director Oren Cass and established in 2020, has released the first in a new series of “Issues 2024” policy briefs that aim to “shape the debate around major issues in the 2024 election.”

The first brief, “Middle-Class Security,” highlights several key facts that demonstrate how the middle-class is struggling.

- In 1985, the typical male worker could provide a family of four with healthcare, housing, transportation, food, and college savings on just 40 weeks of income. Today it requires 62 weeks.
- 90% of Republican voters say middle-class life has gotten more expensive while wages lag behind. Just 10% say it’s easier than ever to attain security.
- 59% of parents believe relying on two incomes to make ends meet is a big problem, wishing they had the option of a middle-class life on one income as in decades past.

American Compass’ report, “2023 Cost-of-Thriving Index” (COTI) measures the number of weeks a typical worker must work each year to earn enough income to cover the major costs for a family of four in the United States.

The index takes into account food, housing, transportation, health care and higher education.

Florida Judge Calls Transgenderism a ‘State-Sponsored Religion’ — Rules in Favor of Christian Teacher

By: Jeff Johnston

A Florida judge recommended the state’s Education Practices Commission exonerate a Christian teacher who was fired for refusing to use a sixth-grade student’s “chosen pronouns.”

Yojary Mundaray taught science at Jose de Diego Middle School, in the Miami-Dade County School District. After her firing, Florida Department of Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr. added insult to injury by issuing an Administrative Complaint against her.

The complaint, with penalties that included revoking Mundaray’s teaching certificate and up to $8,000 in fines, alleged she “imposed her personal religious views” on the student, a girl who identified as a boy, whom the judge called “Pat.”

In a stinging rebuke to Diaz’s complaint, Administrative Law Judge John Van Laningham wrote, “This case is not about proselytizing but about transgender ideology.” He also called transgenderism “a kind of state-sponsored religion,” explaining:

Advocates of transgenderism can be as doctrinaire as religious zealots these days. As this case demonstrates, adhering to the traditional view that gender is biologically determined can get a person excommunicated, from a job in this instance.

Indeed, a reasonable argument can be made that transgenderism is fast becoming, if it has not already become, a kind of state-sponsored religion. Ironically, if anyone attempted to impose beliefs in this instance, it was Pat and, more importantly, the District who did so.
