Steve Scalise won a secret leadership vote just *two nights ago* but has already withdrawn his name as it's become painfully clear he doesn't have the 217 votes needed to be elected speaker of the House. Back to square one it is! The general consensus seems to be that Jim Jordan will next try to run for speaker unopposed, but other members warn that he's already got a "math" problem. "It makes us look like a bunch of idiots," groused Rep. Austin Scott. Yes, yes it does!

Embattled Sen. Bob Menendez charged with conspiring to act as foreign agent
The charges keep piling up for old "Bullion" Bob Menendez, who might be the most inept crook in the greater tri-state area. He's now facing charges of acting as a foreign agent for the government of Egypt, which is extra awkward since he's currently the chairman of the freaking Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Fellow Democratic Sen. John Fetterman is leading the charge in demanding Menendez's immediate expulsion from the Senate, where Menendez has defiantly refused to resign. Interestingly, Fetterman's demands aren't likely to find much traction with Republicans, who obviously don't want to open the Pandora's box of accountability, because setting such a precedent would decimate their caucus!

Media Matters for America reports that anti-Semitic fitness influencer Ian Smith (what a world we live in) has promoted neo-Nazi and pro-Hitler propaganda, posted Holocaust denial garbage online, suggested the “good guys” didn’t win World War 2, and complained that Jewish people are behind “all of these things that are used to control us.” It's almost as if there's something about the Trump brand of white nationalism that really resonates with the American neo-Nazi. Nah....probably just coincidence.

"Doxxing truck" displaying students faces begins circulating Harvard
In an absolutely deranged response to a controversial Harvard student group letter that blamed Israeli policy for creating the conditions that sparked the Hamas terror attacks, a group called "Accuracy in Media" began driving a truck with billboards on it around campus, displaying the names and faces of the letter-signers and labeling them as "anti-Semites." It's a horrendously dystopian and un-American response to a difference in political opinion and a clear attempt to intimidate students into silence.

It's fair to question 77-year-old Donald Trump's mental faculties after watching him slur his way through his most recent Florida rally. One particularly disturbing clip shows the serially indicted con man baselessly accusing President Biden of inviting terrorists into the country because — why not — Barack Obama is apparently secretly still his boss. Trump then disdainfully and awkwardly repeats the name "Barack HUSSEIN Obama" half a dozen times, before casually complaining that Washington, DC "looks like SHIT." Very stable genius stuff right here.

One Colorado officer convicted and one acquitted in 2019 killing of Elijah McClain
Officer Randy Roedema was found guilty of criminally negligent homicide and third-degree assault, while former officer Jason Rosenblatt was acquitted of all charges. The murder of Elijah McClain is one of the more gruesome and disturbing episodes of police brutality in recent years; on August 24, 2019, McClain, a 5'7", 140-pound, unarmed massage therapist was walking home when he was accosted by three officers, wrestled to the ground, and placed in a suffocating choke hold. The cops claimed that McClain, who was anemic, had "incredible strength" and appeared to be "on something." Paramedics arrived on the scene and proceeded to inject him with so much ketamine that he went into cardiac arrest and later died. The third officer, Nathan Woodyard, and two paramedics are also facing charges in separate, upcoming trials later this year.

Russia launches huge new offensive on the Avdiivka stronghold in eastern Ukraine
With the world's eyes transfixed on the crisis unfolding in the Middle East, Vladimir Putin's bloody, brutal invasion of Ukraine continues unabated. Russian troops have launched a major offensive on the town of Avdiivka in eastern Ukraine. Three battalions involving some 2,000 troops and dozens of armored vehicles, supported by fighter jets, are reportedly involved in the large-scale attack on the strategically important town, which acts as the gateway to the Ukrainian separatist city of Donetsk.

Virginia Democrats call for DOJ investigation after voters wrongfully removed from voter rolls by Republicans
Early voting is already underway for a pivotal statewide election in Virginia, which makes it a very inopportune time for GOP Gov. Glenn Youngkin's administration to announce that they had "accidentally" removed at least 270 eligible voters, incorrectly labeling them as convicted felons. Furious Democrats have called for an immediate DOJ investigation into the matter. Some 10,000 voters were removed in a similar purge last year — who knows how many Virginians have been "accidentally" disenfranchised in total?
