Port of Tacoma Commission to consider amendment to second interlocal agreement with Tacoma Public Schools for Maritime Center

The Port of Tacoma Commission on October 17 will consider an amendment to the second interlocal agreement with Tacoma Public Schools and authorization of nearly $3 million for initial design work, master planning and community engagement on a Port Maritime Center [ [link removed] ], which is being developed in partnership with the school district. TPS plans to open a career and technical education skills center and the Port plans new administrative offices at a potential site along the Foss Waterway.

Commissioners will also consider a proclamation regarding Native American Heritage Month and Indigenous Peoples’ Day and hear an annual report from the Tacoma-Pierce County Economic Development Board.

Tacoma Public Schools Maritime|253 Skills Center Approved

Tacoma Public Schools has received approval of their Maritime|253 skills center's proposed core programs, allowing them to begin finalizing their class offerings and enrolling students for the 2024-25 school year! It was a typical day for our Port Biologist: she was called into action when a sighting of a "weird fish" in the Sitcum Waterway caused a big hullabaloo. Was it an alligator? An aquatic yeti? Colin Millan has joined the Port of Tacoma as Director of Security where he will be responsible for the leadership and overall direction of the Port’s security department.
