Colorado is the most beautiful state in the country. And there’s no better way to see everything our home has to offer than long hikes in the summer.
When Michael was home, he did just that — bringing together mayors, advocates, and sportsmen on these hikes to talk about why these public lands are so critical to Colorado. Check out some of his pictures below!

On the trail around Loch Lake
One of Michael’s top priorities in the Senate has been protecting public lands across Colorado.
In 2022, he helped establish the Camp Hale-Continental Divide National Monument, which protected more than 50,000 acres of public land. The Tenmile Range — which includes Quandary Peak, one of the 14’ers Michael climbed this summer — is part of this protected land.
Michael has also been working hard to pass the Colorado Outdoor Recreation & Economy (CORE) Act, which would protect 400,000 acres of public lands. To draft this bill, Michael brought together local government, businesses, recreation groups, sportsmen, and conservationists. The end result is a win-win for our economy, our culture of outdoor recreation, and Colorado’s ecosystems.
