"The moral growth of a great nation requires reflection, as well as observation, to appreciate it."

-Frederick Douglass

All throughout February we have taken the time to celebrate those from the African American community, past and present, who made this country what it is.

Join as we celebrate and reminisce:

Recognizing Black History Month Is About Recalling Where We Came From
Knowing how far we've come keeps us from repeating past mistakes, and helps us learn how to move forward and be successful.

You Don’t Have To Be African American In Order To Appreciate Black History Month!
We don't all have to have a black skin tone to appreciate the hardships faced by those in the past, and glean wisdom from their actions.

The Value of Sung and Unsung Heroes

There are many known heroes that are celebrated each Black History Month. However there are many other unsung heroes that deserve to be celebrated.

Is Georgia Prosperous?

On Monday, Feb. 17th we hosted the Legatum Institute, a London-based think tank working to address poverty on an international scale. They presented their first-ever United States Prosperity Index (USPI), which they focused on Georgia's rankings. This was the first comprehensive assessment of all aspects of prosperity across America. It measured the extent to which all 50 states plus Washington, D.C. have open economies, inclusive societies, and empowered people.

Our discussion centered on the findings and how they are defining scalable policy solutions that will effect real change in breaking the cycle of poverty. We also took a dive into how Georgia can thrive and excel in the areas of immediate access to education and employment opportunities.

What did we learn?  There are opportunities for change in Georgia - both socially and economically.
