Friend,
Even amid Banned Books Week, MAGA activists didn’t let up in their pursuit
of banning books in order to advance their extremist agenda. One school
district in North Carolina even banned activities related to Banned Books
Week and a public library in Alabama (mistakenly) banned a book simply
because the author’s last name was “Gay.” ^[1,2]
The degrees to which schools and libraries are pressured to accede to the
demands of a radical group of conservative activists emphasizes the
importance of not only challenging the bans they seek to implement, but
also to openly rebel against their efforts to censor the information we’re
allowed to consume.
By reading the books right-wing extremists seek to ban and openly defying
their plans to restrict access to information, we help bring attention to
the issue and further build momentum in opposing their authoritarian
efforts.
We know this is an issue People For members care deeply about and it’s why
we’re excited that so many of you have signed up to join our Banned Books
Challenge taking place this month.
[ [link removed] ]It’s not too late to join the challenge! With more than half the month
remaining, there’s still plenty of time to sign up, celebrate the joy and
learning in literature, and win prizes! Learn more about how to
participate on our website. >>

You can read as much or as little as you want to participate in the
challenge. Once you sign up, take a picture or video of yourself, reading
a banned book on our list – either alone, to grandchildren, or with
friends – and [ [link removed] ]submit it to our portal.
Each submission earns you a “point,” and you can use these points at the
end of the month to cash in for free People For merch supporting our
Grandparents For Truth campaign against right-wing attempts to ban books!
One point gets you a bumper sticker, 10 points get you a t-shirt, and
there are lots of other cool prizes. Reading all the books on our list
earns you all of our swag, plus a Grandparents For Truth backpack!
