Republicans have nominated Steve Scalise as Speaker of the House.

In 2002, Scalise gave a speech to a white supremacist group affiliated
with neo-Nazis, founded by KKK leader David Duke.^1 And in describing
himself to a reporter in the 1990s, Scalise reportedly said he was “David
Duke without the baggage.” ^2

This nomination once again shows the state of the GOP: extremism and white
supremacy isn’t limited to the fringe, it’s leading the Republican Party.

It’s been over a week since Kevin McCarthy was removed. Since then all
legislation, all votes, and all of the work Congress should be doing to
avoid another shutdown is suspended.

While Republicans waste precious time wrangling a consensus for a new
extremist leader, the government is on course to run out of funding in a
month and a deadly conflict is raging in Israel and the Palestinian
Territories. Republicans' chaotic leadership is dangerous.

We need to send Republicans a message that our movement is stronger than
their extremism.
