The Browntail Moth Mitigation Fund is
now accepting applications
The *Browntail Moth Mitigation Fund is a grant **opportunity* available to local government or nonprofit organizations to fund activities that will reduce browntail moth impacts.
*The DACF is now accepting applications from government entities or nonprofit organizations in areas with significant browntail populations [ [link removed] ],* which, if approved, will receive reimbursement for mitigation efforts through the Browntail Moth Mitigation Fund. Up to $35,488 in total funding is available. The number and size of awards will be determined based on the applications received and according to the best value to the State. *Applications must be received no later than 11:59 p.m., local time, on November 1, 2023.*

Eligibility
The Browntail Moth Mitigation Fund was established to provide funding to government entities or nonprofit organizations with significant populations [ [link removed] ] to assist with reducing impacts from browntail moths. Towns and nonprofit organizations who previously applied to the Browntail Moth Mitigation Fund grant opportunity and were awarded under RFP# 202303052 are not eligible to apply for this second round of funding.
*Eligible activities are those that may help reduce the impacts of browntail moth: *
* Physical controls such as removal and destruction of overwintering webs,
* Pesticide treatments in accordance with integrated pest management principals and the Maine Board of Pesticides Control Regulations,
* Cultural controls such as taking actions to limit exposure, reduce habitat or attraction, and
* Education that fosters continued community engagement in browntail moth population reduction and awareness beyond the immediate mitigation measures taken,
* Or a combination of the above activities.

Organizations awarded funds in the first round of funding have committed to activities such as controlling browntail moth populations in high use areas, purchasing pole pruners for loan to community members, educating community members about browntail moth, creating coloring pages to help children identify the caterpillars, and more!
Check out our application details and complete the request for applications. *Only government entities or nonprofit organizations* that plan to conduct mitigation in areas found on the significant browntail populations list are encouraged to apply; *funding is not available to individuals or for those previously awarded under RFP# 202303052*. Areas outside of the list of significant browntail moth populations may be considered for funding at the request by an applicant if significant populations of browntail are confirmed.
