Our world is drowning in plastic. 12 million metric tons of plastic enter our ocean each year, and contrary to what we were all taught in elementary school, 90% of all plastic waste is NOT recycled — instead it piles up in landfills, clogging the ocean, and driving the climate crisis.
To make matters worse, the fossil fuel industry is turning to plastics to keep their profits up as the world transitions away from oil. That’s why it is critical that the international community agrees to a Global Plastics Treaty and starts our world on the path to a plastics-free future.

The plastics crisis isn’t just a climate change issue; plastics production has a long history of environmental racism and poisoning people everywhere from the US’ “Cancer Alley” to China’s “Cancer Village.”
If Big Oil gets its way, plastic production could double by 2030. But if we can get a strong Global Plastics Treaty signed, we can keep oil used to make plastic in the ground and end the age of plastic for good.
