Radon Testing Kits are Available from Local Libraries
Health Canada
Testing your radon level is helpful for anyone living in a single-family detached or townhouse. It's a very small device that you just need to leave on the lower level of your house for three months.
To encourage people to test radon levels, digital monitors are available for loan from participating libraries to serve as screening tools and provide a snapshot of the levels in their homes. It is recommended that patrons follow-up with a 90-day long-term radon testing for a more comprehensive assessment. To promote this practice, Health Canada is piloting a discount code program to encourage patrons to purchase long-term radon test kits at a reduced price.
The discount code program is available from September 15, 2023 to March 31, 2024. Use the code RADONPROMO at these suppliers to get your long-term radon test kit.

BC Construction Safety Alliance Offers Asbestos Abatement Certification Training
BCCSA
The construction industry faces constant deadlines. But one deadline — January 1, 2024 — may be the most important deadline for businesses that work with asbestos.
On that day, asbestos abatement contractors must be registered and licensed by WorkSafeBC, and workers must have completed mandatory certification to perform asbestos abatement work. If a company isn't registered, it will be illegal for them to continue in business until they are. While it's a worker's responsibility to become certified, asbestos abatement contractors will be forbidden from employing uncertified workers, potentially bringing their business activities to a full stop.
To be certified, workers must choose one of two levels of asbestos work in which they're involved. They then undergo a three-part training program that begins with online training, continues to an in-person practical skills assessment, and concludes with a final written certification exam.
The certification program takes about a day to complete. The BC Construction Safety Alliance offers a WorkSafeBC-approved certification program that will enable you to get your workers certified before the deadline arrives.
