John, I understand the struggles many Americans are facing. I’ve lived them.

I escaped an abusive marriage and ended up homeless.

I relied on public assistance to raise my two young sons as a single mother.

I couldn't afford child care, so my kids came to class with me while I earned my college degree.

John, when I became a congresswoman, these were the reasons why I vowed to be a voice for families like mine – and so far, that's what I've done.

From fighting to raise the minimum wage to working to lower health care costs and making child care more affordable, I have taken these issues and many more to the House of Representatives.
