Every American is afforded equal rights under law and is innocent until proven guilty.

We’ll be explicit: The charges against Senator Bob Menendez are just that — charges.

For now.

But if a buck Private in the U.S. Army or the Marines was charged and found guilty of being an unregistered agent of a foreign government, they would spend the rest of their life behind bars.

This man was elevated to a position of trust. On the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he was privy to untold intelligence. Critical information. Information that could cost people their lives.

He is charged with selling that position of trust to the highest bidder — a foreign nation.

It is a betrayal. It is nothing short of a betrayal of our country.

Bob Menendez should resign. But it seems like he won’t. So we have to make sure we fill his seat with an honorable man.
