Dear John,
It’s National Farmers’ Day here in the U.S. — an opportunity for us to recognize the work of farmers past and present.
Today, farmersare finding new ways to produce the crops we need while adopting and maintaining climate-smart practices on the land and building the resilience our planet needs. By planting cover crops, reducing tillage and improving livestock management, they're actively improving soil health while reducing harmful emissions like methane.
Climate-smart farmers can help reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions! But to stabilize the climate they’ll need a little help. Take action and urge policymakers to help more farmers be a bigger part of the climate solution.

American farmers and ranchers manage two-thirds of our nation’s land, all while producing the food, fuel and fiber our country and world needs. By adopting and maintaining climate-smart practices on that land, farmers can also slash climate emissions, improve soil health, protect water quality and reduce their risk from extreme weather.
Farmers, ranchers and foresters support investments in climate-smart agriculture and the expansion of popular farm bill conservation programs. These programs are so popular, in fact, that for every available slot, there are three more farmers who want to participate but can’t.
The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) provided nearly $20 billion to help U.S. farmers and rural communities cut emissions and make food production more resilient to climate impacts. Now we’re seeing more farmers than ever prioritize practices that reduce methane and nitrous oxide and help improve climate resilience.
This is a pivotal moment for American farmers! We need every tool and tactic to build agricultural resilience. Ask policymakers to give farmers a hand by supporting climate-smart agriculture!
