I wanted to send you an update about the coronavirus and what you can do to help prevent its spread. I also want to let you know we are taking action in the House this week to help combat the coronavirus.

Staying calm, familiarizing yourself with the facts about coronavirus and following regular preventative measures that will help prevent spread are the most important steps you can take right now.

- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipes.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.

What is Congress doing?

In the House, we have a real plan and are currently preparing for a vote this week to provide at least $6 billion of emergency funding to help states combat the coronavirus. I will work to ensure Connecticut receives its fair share of this emergency funding.

What is Connecticut doing?

Connecticut is taking proactive steps to ensure preparedness for the coronavirus. The Connecticut Department of Public Health's laboratory in Rocky Hill is now fully capable of conducting diagnostic testing for the coronavirus. This capability will provide the ability to diagnose and treat any future patients in an expedited fashion.

There still are no confirmed cases of coronavirus in Connecticut, and no patients currently under investigation for possible exposure.

This must be a top priority, not a partisan issue. We must continue to work together to address and combat this virus. I'll keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Jim
