*Husted Announces High School Tech Internship Intermediary Application Period** *

(COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Ohio Lt. Governor Jon Husted, Director of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation (OWT), today announced the application period for High School Tech Internship Intermediaries. Selected intermediary organizations will serve as the point of contact for businesses and education entities throughout the high school tech internship process.

“Earlier this year, we announced that over 500 students were able to participate in the High School Tech Internship program, which is a significant increase compared to previous rounds, thanks to the involvement of intermediaries,” said Lt. Governor Husted. “Having opportunities for students to learn tech-related skills at a young age is a win for both the students, and for the employers in their communities. As Ohio continues to land tech-related, economic development projects, it’s crucial we get students trained in these industries as early as possible, setting them up for future opportunities here in our state.”

The High School Tech Internship program is an opportunity for Ohio employers to receive reimbursement (up to $5,000 per intern) for establishing a recruitment pipeline by hosting high school interns in tech-related roles. The goal of the program is to provide businesses with the tech talent they need while also providing students with valuable work experience at an early age.

The selected High School Tech Internship Intermediaries will allow the program to be administered more collaboratively between the state, educational entities, and businesses. Examples of intermediaries include economic development organizations, workforce and education partnerships, and other community-based groups. The selected intermediaries will have several responsibilities to support the growth and administration of the high school tech internship program.

“This initiative is not only supporting Ohio’s businesses and students today but leading the charge in shaping the tech-driven industries of tomorrow,” said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development, which partners with OWT on the initiative. “Intermediaries have the chance to strengthen the workforce in their communities and show Ohio’s talented youth the opportunities that exist in Ohio.”

The application period for the High School Tech Internship Intermediaries *begins today, October 12, 2023,* and runs through* November 3, 2023, at 5:00 p.m.*
