John,
Well, here we are! 13 months after I quit my job last February. Even longer if you consider the last campaign. Many months of hard work, introducing myself to folks across this district, building a campaign infrastructure, and developing a broad coalition to take back the Texas 10th.
Thank you. I truly mean it. From my wife Hindatu, from my children Malika and Hamza, from our family and community: thank you for making this possible. Thank you for making this worthwhile. I would not be doing this work, if not for you.
This campaign is about building a foundation for lasting political change. For too long, our representatives have left the people behind. Allowing hospitals to close while opposing healthcare for all. Attacking unions and government workers while allowing the wealthiest to prosper. Using immigrant families and people of color as targets for political gain, instead of upholding our common humanity and dignity.
Together, we are changing our communities and we are changing Texas, for the better. We’ve built solidarity with Prairie View students and Fayette farmers and Austin activists. We’ve given voice to residents from Brenham and Sealy, Bastrop and Eagle Lake. We’ve made friends and won allies. We’ve cultivated hope and opportunity and more.
I hope you are enjoying the ride. And it’s not over yet! We feel tremendous optimism about what we’ve accomplished, about what the voters are telling us at their doors, about what the people want here in the Texas 10th. And we are committed to seeing this through: all the way to November, and to Washington, DC, and beyond.
Thank you. You are appreciated more than you know.
With love and solidarity,
Mike Siegel
