Dear John,
I’m going to get right to the point: Twin Metals has submitted a request for an exploratory drilling permit to mine UNDER Birch Lake. This is perhaps their most dangerous proposal yet.
This exploration is solely to advance a sulfide-ore copper mine underneath Birch Lake, the most popular recreation lake in the Superior National Forest outside the Boundary Waters and flows directly into the Wilderness.
We are taking action by using every legal tool available to fight back against these anti-Wilderness forces and working to pass legislation that bans sulfide-ore copper mining on state lands in the Boundary Waters watershed. Will you join us in this fight? [[link removed]]

We fought for a 20 year ban on federal land in the headwaters of the Boundary Waters and WON, and we will fight tooth and nail to secure protection for nearby state lands. Don’t let this recent drilling proposal get a foothold. We must keep toxic mining interests away from Canoe Country.
We are up against the deep pockets of massive foreign mining companies. But, with your support, we can keep fighting back and beating them in every venue, until the Boundary Waters is protected for good.
Rush a gift today [[link removed]] to fund our expert legal, scientific, and policy work that MUST prevail in order to truly protect this precious Wilderness forever. Every dollar counts, and your donation will help us build a stronger coalition of Wilderness Defenders working to protect the Boundary Waters.
