Dear friend,

We’re so excited to announce our new land, housing, and climate policy platform, Resilient Roots & Canopies of Community Stewardship! This platform was informed by the powerful work of our member organizations who live and organize on the frontlines of the housing and climate crises. It represents an understanding that housing justice and climate justice are deeply intertwined and we need a more holistic approach to both issues.

It’s no secret that climate change has had an enormous impact on our homes and communities. Severe weather events are a major force driving displacement around the world and they are only accelerating. Since Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans 23 years ago, we’ve seen what the effects of climate disaster look like around the country, who are most impacted, and what the long term consequences are for our communities.

That’s why we produced this platform that outlines the necessity of protecting communities against displacement, securing their land tenure, and ensuring they are centered in decision-making about their homes AND in efforts to mitigate the worst effects of climate change. Organized frontline communities are central to a just transition.

We’re deeply grateful to all the RTTC member organizations, movement allies, and resource allies who helped make this report a reality. This is just the beginning of our work to explore how housing and climate justice fights and demands can be stronger together β€” stay tuned for more.
