                                                                                           Issue 19|September 2023

Attorney General Jeff Landry led the LADOJ through a great month of August. From protecting people to serving justice, our office continues fighting and winning for Louisiana. Below are some highlights from the successful month.

AG Jeff Landry and Solicitor General Liz Murrill sued the Biden Administration after it defied Congress in order to facilitate a backroom deal with radical activists publicly committed to shutting down oil exploration ([link removed]) in the Gulf of Mexico.

Two Louisiana men investigated by our Cyber Crime Unit were brought to justice. Ezra West ([link removed]) from Baton Rouge was convicted of possession of child pornography and Michael Comeaux ([link removed]) from Lake Charles was convicted of sexual battery of a victim under 13 years of age and pornography involving juveniles.

August was National Vehicle Theft Prevention Month, and AG Jeff Landry encouraged everyone to take precautions to help safeguard personal belongings. Check out the safety tips he offered on how to prevent vehicle thefts by clicking here ([link removed]).

It can be easy to forget the silent workforce that bridges the gap between a crime scene and the court room – often enabling justice to be served through the collection, analysis, and interpretation of evidence. Read AG Jeff Landry's take ([link removed]) on the hard and emotionally challenging work that these professionals at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab perform on a daily basis despite a lack of funding, an enormous backlog of cases, and a broken criminal justice system.

Our Public Protection Division launched an investigation ([link removed]) into Spring View Medical Clinic.

Taylor Swift's "Eras Tour" is headed to New Orleans, and AG Jeff Landry offered tips ([link removed]) to help Swifties avoid ticket scams.

Research shows that Americans aged 65 and older are the prime targets of scams and that they receive more junk mail and telephone solicitations than any other age group. So, on National Senior Citizens Day, we reminded everyone that education is the best line of defense against fraud and provided consumer safety tips ([link removed]) to help avoid telemarketing, mortgage, contractor, charity, and other types of fraud commonly perpetrated on senior citizens.

After Blue Cross announced plans to sell the Baton Rouge-based nonprofit and create a multi-billion-dollar foundation with the proceeds, AG Jeff Landry asked the Insurance Commissioner to delay the regulatory hearing on proposed deal while he investigates it for possible antitrust violations ([link removed]).

([link removed])

AG Jeff Landry is opposed to John Bel Edwards, in the waning days of his tenure as Governor, trying to circumvent the established legal process to commute the death sentences of Louisiana's most heinous criminals ([link removed]).

([link removed])

AG Jeff Landry and SG Liz Murrill led the legal team at oral arguments ([link removed]) on the Appeal of Preliminary Injunction against Biden Collusion with Big Tech to suppress free speech. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in New Orleans will decide the next step in this landmark lawsuit ([link removed]) against President Joe Biden and numerous high-ranking officials across multiple federal agencies.
