Hi John,
Last night we held the first of a series of book launches for Nick Dearden's new book, Pharmanomics: How Big Pharma Destroys Global Health, in a small independent bookshop in south London. It was a fascinating conversation, Nick signed copies of the book and everyone enjoyed a thought provoking event.
In the book, Nick explores not just how the profit-driven drugs industry is failing us, but also the alternatives which are starting to emerge. Over the next few weeks, Nick may be coming to a town or city near you.

The big pharmaceutical firms are more interested in profit than health. This was made clear as governments rushed to produce vaccines during the Covid pandemic. Behind the much-trumpeted scientific breakthroughs, major companies found new ways of gouging billions from governments while abandoning the global south. But this is only the latest episode in a long history of financialising medicine.
The full list of dates over the next month is:
* Hastings – 13 October
* Sheffield – 18 October
* Bradford – 1 November
* Portsmouth – 2 November
* Reading – 8 November
* Dundee – 10 November
* Ardrossan – 11 November
* Edinburgh – 12 November
* Peebles – 12 November
* Glasgow – 13 November
* Nottingham – 20 November
