Steve Scalise, who once bragged that he was KKK Grand Wizard David Duke "without the baggage" (he means hood) and refused to certify the results of the 2020 election, won the secret vote for leadership but...still doesn't have enough floor votes to actually be elected speaker of the House. Rep. Nancy Mace claims she can't vote for him because of his ties to white supremacy, Thomas Massie won't vote for him because he thinks Scalise will fund the government, Marjorie Taylor Greene apparently wants him to focus solely on defeating his cancer, and more than a dozen other members have signaled they will not support him. Soooo....have fun with that, Steve.

House Republican blowhard throws temper tantrum during White House briefing on Israel terrorist attack
Republican Rep. Derrick Van Orden has made an unsavory name for himself around Capitol Hill for being a foul-tempered potty mouth, having drunkenly cursed out teenage pages on more than one occasion. For his latest act, the MAGA blowhard turned his ire on White House briefers. Van Orden interrupted to loudly complain that the briefing was "pathetic," then cursed out Rep. Dean Phillips for calling him out. “He was rude and attacked the presenters. I thought they had very substantive things to say. But he just had this blanket attack saying that ‘this is the worst information I've ever had...and basically attacking them for being incompetent," Phillips said. Just another example of the kind of professionalism and maturity we've come to expect from House Republicans.

One of the more infuriating "innovations" of modern American capitalism are mysterious junk fees, also known as the "Because F*ck You, That's Why! Fee" on everything from concerts to airline tickets and even ordering takeout. Thankfully, President Biden is directing the FTC to crack down on the bogus practice and force sellers to put all their mandatory costs upfront. This is a huge deal, folks — these fees cost Americans up to $64 BILLION a year. It's a great example of the quality-of-life improvements that you get from electing Democrats and something you will never, ever see from a Republican administration.

62-year-old Deacon Johnny Hollman tragically died after being tased by an Atlanta police officer responding to a minor traffic accident called in by Hollman HIMSELF. According to police, Hollman, who was driving home from Bible study, became agitated when the responding officer issued him a citation. The officer then kicked Hollman to the ground and used his stun gun because the churchgoer was supposedly "resisting." Officer Kiran Kimbrough has been rightly fired, but this tragic homicide — for the medical examiner did in fact rule the killing a homicide — is yet another deeply disturbing example of police resorting to violence when presented with the slightest "resistance" from a Black American.

Unfortunately for warmongering Republicans champing at the bit to blame President Biden for the carnage, the intelligence assessment douses bogus right-wing talking points linking recently unfrozen Iranian assets to the terrorist attacks launched by Hamas. Bernie Sanders report exposes how nonprofit hospitals exploit tax breaks, fail poor patients
A new report released by Sen. Bernie Sanders reveals that while many so-called "nonprofit" hospitals are legally obligated to provide medical attention for low-income patients, many fail to do so while taking huge advantage of tax breaks in order to enrich their executives. According to the report, the 16 largest nonprofit hospital chains in the country "spent only an estimated $16 billion on charity care in 2020, or about 57% of the value of their tax breaks in the same year" while those companies' CEOs averaged more than $8 million in compensation and collectively made more than $140 million. This is what we get with a healthcare system that puts making money over healing the sick, and it'll stay that way until we make some major changes.
