I joined the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) at the Minnesota Veterans Home - Silver Bay in 2006 as a Therapeutic Recreation Assistant. After eight years in that role, I transitioned to a Life Enrichment Coordinator, then eventually the Life Enrichment Coordinator Director. In 2019, I obtained my nursing home administrator license and left MDVA to be the Director of Senior Services at the Bigfork Valley Hospital. In 2021, I was fortunate enough to come back to the Silver Bay Veterans Home and join the team again and have served as the Home Administrator since then.
It?s a great place to help employees learn and grow. Many have started as floor staff and worked their way up to different positions and/or leadership roles.
In my 15 years with MDVA, I have worked with dedicated and committed staff who truly care for our Veterans. Many employees have been here 10 plus years and some have been working here since we opened 30 years ago! The quality of care and dedication shows with our successful surveys from both Department of Health and Veterans Affairs.
We are very fortunate to have many resources at our fingertips for both the Residents and staff. It is nice to work for an organization where all areas of the agency support one another and work as a team, whether that be in the Healthcare division or the Programs and Services division. It is very rewarding to be able to serve our Veterans every day. MDVA is a great place to work!
