Have you heard of this court case? It found an Allegheny County defendant did not violate his probation for having an outstanding restitution balance because the court hadn’t proved he was in a position to pay it off faster.

It was also the ruling a former local educator used to help his own cause.

Ed Maritz Jr. — a former Pine-Richland educator who stole money from the education association — could have been held on probation indefinitely when the Commonwealth v. Marshall ruling was made. When he was alerted to it, he used it to convince a judge to let him off ([link removed]) .
