Budget 2024 fell short in terms of ambition for young people.

Hello John,

I’m writing to thank you for your support and to update you on our analysis of what Budget 2024 means for young people and youth work ([link removed]) .

We got an extra €5m for youth services in Budget 2024. Huge thanks to the 5,565 of you who supported young people by signing our open letter calling on the Government to fund youth work properly. Your voices made a difference, this was a larger increase than last year.

However, it's not the full €9.4m that was needed. The increase in youth work funding is welcome, but it is not enough to support the sector to tackle the many challenges facing our growing youth population.
Our next step will be to contact the Government to discuss how the extra €5m will be used, and to see if further capital funding is available, so that it can go to services best placed to support the young people who have been most affected by challenges including the cost-of-living crisis, accommodation shortages and youth homelessness.

Our campaigning for young people and youth work doesn't stop on Budget day. We will keep you updated as our engagement with Government continues and as further opportunities for you to lend your voice arise.

Warmest regards and thank you again for your support John,

Mary
