Outside the Oval Office today, President Biden announced new efforts to crack down on surprise junk fees by ensuring "front-end pricing" on things like airline tickets, hotel rooms, rent prices, and other areas where corporations bury hidden costs.

Biden was introduced by Oregon mom Becky Chong -- a Progressive Change supporter and MoveOn member -- after we shared her story of being hit with unexpected junk fees with the White House.

This is a great example of how we can make positive change that helps millions of families -- through executive branch action.

Progressive Change members across the country chipped in to help her get to DC today -- where her whole family got to meet FTC Chair Lina Kahn and CFPB Director Rohit Chopra in the West Wing!

This summer, the Associated Press reported: "More than a dozen House Democrats around the country plan to hold events organized with help from the Progressive Change Institute to promote the administration’s effort to curb junk fees."

We recruited people with stories to speak at these events -- along with partners like Consumers Union, MoveOn, Color Of Change, American Economic Liberties Project, Americans for Financial Reform, and More Perfect Union.

Our strategy worked. Our first event in Detroit was covered by local ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and print media. We also got big results in Pittsburgh and other locations. Help continue an effective messaging strategy in 2024!

And today, on the biggest stage of all at the White House, Becky delivered this message to national media:

"We work hard for our money, and instead of getting to enjoy it, we have to be on alert for companies looking to take every nickel and dime they can. The President is taking this seriously and fighting hard for working families like mine. No one should have to figure out how to cover costs that were not transparent upfront and ended up being beyond what they budgeted for. For that, Mr. President, we say thank you."
