Dear John
Right now, the UK government is pumping millions of pounds of taxpayers’ money into oil and gas projects abroad.
That’s your money they’re using to help the fossil fuel industry exploit other countries for profit. All while polluting their environment and increasing global carbon emissions.
Our government can’t pose as a climate leader when it’s still fuelling climate breakdown. And as the UK gears up to host the UN climate talks in Glasgow later this year, we need to get our house in order.
Will you sign our petition calling on our leaders to stop funding fossil fuel projects abroad?

The shocking thing is how little we as the general public know about these destructive deals. For instance, did you know that between 2016 and 2018 your money funded 16 oil and gas projects in Brazil, China, Myanmar, Mexico, and India?
Or that tens of millions of pounds went towards building power plants and drilling rigs in Ghana, Nigeria, and Bangladesh?
This needs to stop.
When we work together, great things happen. Just look how at how we managed to see off fracking in England.
Our money should be used to fight climate breakdown – not make it worse. If you agree, please tell our government what true climate leadership looks like.

I firmly believe that if we can shine a spotlight on the murky world of overseas spending, then we can hold our leaders to account. Imagine if that money was spent helping those in the most vulnerable countries adapt to climate breakdown and installing clean energy for the future.
Now that’s a world I want to live in.
Many thanks,
