John,
Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade last year, every state in the South has passed laws to ban abortion — all except Virginia, where we have a crucial opportunity to take back power from Republicans and protect abortion access this year.
With newly drawn districts and every seat in the legislature up for election, we can win back the State House, defend and expand our majority in the State Senate, and build the foundation to defeat Donald Trump and Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin in the next two years.
So today, we’re proud to announce our first round of Virginia endorsements for the general election, candidates who will fight for abortion justice, reform our criminal justice system, secure good jobs and higher wages for workers, and stand up to abusive utility monopolies. During Virginia’s primary season this year, supporters like you helped knock on 32,000 doors, make 120,000 phone calls, send 1 million texts, deliver 200,000 mailers, and reach over 2 million voters with digital ads. Thanks to those efforts, we saw bold WFP candidates achieve victory across the state, winning eight legislative races and defending three progressive reformer district attorneys.
Now, we’re facing off against MAGA Republicans who will ban abortion if they’re allowed to win a trifecta next month. And we’re throwing down to elect leaders who can kick the GOP out of power.
Meet the Working Families Party Virginia 2023 slate:
-
Danica Roem for State Senate District 30
- Nadarius Clark for State House District 84
- Joshua Thomas for State House District 21
- Travis Nembhard for State House District 22
- Joshua Cole for State House District 65
- Buta Biberaj for Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney
- Craig Buckley for Loudoun County Sheriff
- Deshundra Jefferson for Prince William County Board Chairmanship
- Idris O' Connor for Prince William County District Supervisor (Coles District)
- Josh King for Prince William County Sheriff
The last few years have shown us just how close Virginia elections can be, with Democrats winning the State House in 2017 by a literal coin toss. We can’t afford to leave anything up to chance this year — these champions need our support to beat the far right.
And because Virginia has no contribution limits on political spending, we need to work even harder to combat big money from companies like Dominion Energy who are determined to maintain their exploitative monopoly in the state.
Can you help fight back against the power-hungry extremists and corporate interests trying to buy the state legislature, and stand up for abortion access, criminal justice reform, and accountability for utility monopolies? Pitch in to support our Virginia slate now.
