John, House Republicans just nominated Rep. Steve Scalise to be the new Speaker of the House. If elected, he would be a disaster for our nation.

For those of you unfamiliar with the far-right politics of Rep. Scalise, let me break it down for you. He once described himself as “David Duke without the baggage.” He voted to overturn the 2020 election. He supports a national abortion ban, has an A-rating from the NRA, and is a vocal opponent of same-sex marriage.

This is the person who GOP politicians have landed on to represent their interests. Democrats need to respond with a massive show of resistance to these extremist politics. I’ve set a goal of raising $10,000 in the next 24 hours to fight back – can you donate today?

As a reminder, Republicans got themselves into this mess to begin with when they caved to far-right members of their own party and ousted Kevin McCarthy from his role as Speaker last week. Now – with the threat of a government shutdown still imminent – they’ve nominated a representative who supports policies that endanger our fundamental rights.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Republicans are putting politics over people, and it’s imperative we flip the House blue to put people in charge who actually care about doing their jobs.

I’m disgusted and appalled by the nomination of Rep. Scalise. He is a far-right extremist who wants to tear down everything I stand for. We must fight back immediately.
