Over the last several days, Israel has endured horrific, unimaginable terrorism – almost 1500 people murdered and 4000 injured – all perpetrated by the terrorist group Hamas. The magnitude of Hamas’ atrocities continues to be revealed each day: babies decapitated; innocent children, women and men gunned down and slaughtered in their homes, in their cars, and on the streets; young people gunned down at a music festival celebrating peace; women raped and then paraded in the streets to demean them; elderly people, including Holocaust survivors, humiliated, abducted and held hostage; dead bodies mutilated.
As President Biden stated: “This was an act of sheer evil.” The President understands the truth about Hamas: “Its stated purpose is the annihilation of the Jewish State of Israel and the murder of Jewish people.”
But National Students for Justice in Palestine (NSJP) has publicly praised Hamas and its violence, terrorism and murder as “a historic win for the Palestinian resistance.” According to NSJP, “This is what it means to Free Palestine; not just slogans and rallies, but armed confrontation with the oppressors.”
NSJP is encouraging more “confrontation” and violence. It has issued a “Call to Action,” urging students on campuses across the country to mobilize for a “Day of Resistance” tomorrow, October 12, 2023.
Do not ignore this incitement to violence against Jews and Israelis:
- If you haven’t already, issue a statement to your campus community forcefully and unequivocally condemning the terrorist group Hamas and its actions. Make it clear that there is zero justification and zero legitimacy for Hamas’ terrorist actions.
- Forcefully and unequivocally condemn NSJP’s “Call to Action.” Make it clear that you will not permit any such “mobilization” efforts on your campus, tomorrow or ever, and that you will direct law enforcement to put a stop to any such efforts immediately.
- Notify campus security and your local police department about NSJP’s call for a “day of resistance,” and make it clear that it is a call for violence against members of your community. Demand that police be present in full force, ready to put an immediate stop to any such “mobilization” efforts by SJP and its allies, and that resisters to police protection must be arrested immediately.
It is your moral and legal obligation (under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act) to protect Jewish and Israeli students on your campus. If you fail to take sufficient steps in response to NSJP’s “Call to Action,” the consequences will be yours to bear.
