Team,
The Supreme Court just began a new term with historically low approval ratings – only 41% of the public approves of how the Court does its job, according to The Washington Post. And as more stories come out about the Republican billionaire megadonors trying to curry favor with right-wing justices through extravagant gifts and trips, Americans are hoping there will be ethics reform at the highest court in our country.
My bill, the Supreme Court Ethics Recusal and Transparency (SCERT) Act, can make that happen. The SCERT Act was passed by the Senate Judiciary Committee. But Democrats likely need to protect our Senate majority and retake the House to get this bill over the finish line.
But it’s clear that I’m a target for the dark money interests I’ve spent years exposing. Can you chip in today to support me in the upcoming fight for Senate control?
This term, the Court will decide cases on gun safety, abortion medication, the role of federal agencies, gerrymandering, and other big issues that have the power to change the trajectory of the country. But since the Court has no process to enforce the justices' ethical obligations, Americans have lost trust in the idea that they're really getting a fair shake.
A binding code of ethics would go a long way toward fixing what's broken at the Court. Chip in $5 today to send me back to the Senate in 2024 so I can keep up the fight. We need to get the SCERT Act across the finish line and restore the public's trust in our Supreme Court.
Thank you,
Sheldon Whitehousedonate
