John, I’m in Washington, D.C. because today, the Supreme Court will hear a case that could COMPLETELY transform our race for Congress.
Before I explain the situation, can you please chip in $10 or any amount to our campaign to defeat MAGA extremist Nancy Mace and take back the House? Nancy has been making TV appearances nonstop, and we need the resources to let every voter know her true record. Here’s the situation: After the 2020 census, South Carolina legislators had to redraw the state’s Congressional district map. They ignored our calls for fair maps. Instead, they worked to gerrymander districts in Republicans’ favor. The new maps divided Charleston County – where my family has lived for generations – into two different districts. 30,000 Black Americans who had previously voted in the 1st District now voted in the 6th. Fortunately, in January 2023, a lower court struck down South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District as an unconstitutional effort to silence the voices of Black voters. That should have been the end of it. South Carolina legislators should have gone back to the drawing board and produced a fair map. Instead, they appealed the case – and now, the Supreme Court will hear Alexander v. South Carolina State Conference of the NAACP. We know there is a 6-3 conservative majority on the Supreme Court. But the justices surprised us earlier this year by forcing Alabama to redraw their rigged maps. Bottom line: If the Supreme Court rules in our favor, we will rocket to the top of the list of competitive 2024 House races. Our campaign could be the one that ends the MAGA majority in the House.
