John, we are so close to an AIDS-free generation – but MAGA extremists are putting this at risk.
In 2003, I led bipartisan efforts to get President Bush to establish PEPFAR – the most successful public health program in history, which has saved 25 million lives from HIV/AIDS. But now, Republican extremists are blocking PEPFAR's renewal, jeopardizing the incredible progress we've made.
Why? Because some groups that fight AIDS also provide abortion services, and Republicans – hell-bent on restricting a woman's right to reproductive freedom – are willing to curtail two decades of progress and let tens of thousands suffer the consequences.
Due to their inaction and extremism, parts of the program expired early last week. And if Congress does not act soon, organizations that deliver lifesaving drug treatments and other forms of support to HIV patients could be severely impacted and forced to cut back their work.
Not on my watch. I'm doing everything I can to ensure we have the funding we need to continue this vital public program and others – and, in the Senate, I'll keep leading the fight to end HIV and AIDS in the U.S. and around the world.
But I can't do this alone: If you can, will you chip in $5 right now to power my campaign for progress?
With PEPFAR, our nation was on track to end HIV and AIDS by 2030. Getting back on track is critical for our nation's health, and it's not going to happen without some bipartisan compromise.
That's why I'm doing everything I can, reaching across the aisle to get a bill to fund PEPFAR passed as soon as possible.
But this fight doesn't end here. In the Senate, I'll continue to be a voice for progress, common sense, and the health of the people I serve. But I need your help: Will you pitch in $5 or whatever you're able right now so that I can have the resources I need to win in this ultra-competitive race?
