In a recent webinar, Urgent Action to Demand an End to Amazon Crude Financing in Peru, we shared the ways in which the financial sector invests in the fossil fuel industry, turning a profit while worsening the climate crisis.
There are many forms in which these institutions finance oil and gas, and we have an opportunity to disrupt this process. Join us in calling out the Italian Export Credit Agency (SACE) for its role in perpetuating climate destruction and Indigenous rights abuses in the Amazon.
SACE will soon decide whether to “insure” a line of credit for state-run oil company, Petroperú. This would ultimately allow the oil company to receive funding for destructive long-term projects, affecting the surrounding communities that depend on nature to survive and locking in more damage to our global climate.
Petroperú and its financiers are all complicit in human and environmental rights abuses throughout the Amazon. The deteriorated North Peruvian Pipeline alone has caused more than 94 oil spills between 2001 and 2019, yet the company continues operations that have cost the company $4.3 million in remediation of environmental liabilities alone.
Join us in taking digital action to hold SACE accountable!
