Folks, we just kicked off a new month and a new quarter, and I want to take a moment to reflect with you.
My favorite win from this past summer (if I had to only pick one) would be Alabama’s redistricting battle.
After our partners spent months organizing on the ground demanding accountability for a botched redistricting process led by Alabama Republicans, the Supreme Court ruled that their map violated the Voting Rights Act and ordered it to be redrawn.
Alabama Republicans were hoping to get away with this injustice by working under the radar, but thanks to your support, we were able to rally around this issue and win a fairer, more representative map.
Now, Black Alabamians have more voting power and the newly drawn districts are likely to secure an additional Democratic House seat next year — which is huge considering Democrats are fighting to flip the GOP’s narrow majority.
Looking ahead, there are so many big moments I’m prioritizing. In the near future, we have Mississippi’s statewide election, where we have the chance to flip tons of statewide positions from red to blue.
What about you? Let us know what was your favorite win this summer, and also share what your top priority is for the future in our quick survey:
Thank you! I’m looking forward to reading your response.
Joe
